Andrew Warren was elected as State Attorney of Florida’s 13th Judicial Circuit (Hillsborough County) in 2016 and re-elected in 2020, leading an office of about 130 prosecutors. While in office, he focused on being tough on violent criminals and repeat offenders, fighting for victims, and reducing crime through innovative prevention and rehabilitation programs. Working with law enforcement, Warren reduced crime 32% while in office, making Hillsborough the safest large county in Florida. In August 2022, Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended Warren for criticizing harsh abortion bans. Warren sued the governor, and in January 2023 a federal court ruled the suspension violated the U.S. Constitution but that it lacked the power to reinstate him. In January 2024, a federal appellate court affirmed the lower court's authority to reinstate Warren, and he continues to fight for reinstatement. Recognized as a national leader on criminal justice policy, Warren received the ABA's Minister of Justice Award in 2023. Before being elected, Warren served as federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice. Born in Gainesville, Warren graduated from Brandeis University and Columbia University Law School before returning to Florida in 2013 to continue his public service. He lives in Tampa with his family and is active in criminal justice and community organizations, while also coaching youth sports.
